Beaufort Secondary College is located in the rural township of Beaufort, population 1,500. The school is very well situated in the township, being in an attractive setting adjacent to the Beaufort Lake. It provides social, cultural and sporting facilities for the people of Beaufort and surrounding areas, and complements the facilities provided at the Goldfields Recreation Reserve.

Beaufort Secondary College is the only secondary college in the Pyrenees Shire. The nearest secondary schools are in Ballarat and Ararat. Its main feeder schools are Beaufort Primary School, Trawalla Primary School, Skipton Primary School, Buangor Primary School and Amphitheatre Primary School. Since the closure of Lexton Primary School, some students come from Waubra Primary School. During the last couple of years, the Snake Valley campus of Woady Yaloak Primary School has also provided a number of students.
