VCAL

There are three levels of VCAL, Foundation, Intermediate and Senior and students can be enrolled in any level appropriate to them. There are no pre-requisites for entry to VCAL programs. As its title suggests, VCAL has a strong “hands-on” component and is particularly applicable to those students selecting VET courses and/or Design and Technology Units.
The five areas of study in VCAL are:

  1. Literacy (VCE Units 1 and 2).
  2. Numeracy (VCE Units 1 and 2).
  3. Industry specific skills (VET subjects).
  4. Work related skills (Work experience or one day per week work placement).
  5. Personal development skills (VCE Outdoor Education Units 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, or another discipline such as Music or Studio Art which has a strong personal development component.
Plus any other VCE Unit selected by the student. VCAL is simply a combination of subjects choices which leads to a formal qualification that is recognised and respected by employers throughout the state.
