Beaufort Secondary College is a Year 7-12 college of 160 students serving a rural community in Western Victoria, approximately 50kms from Ballarat. Students learn in a beautiful environment beside Beaufort Lake. It is located in a precinct that includes most of the town’s sporting and community facilities – the Beaufort Community Bank Complex, town oval, tennis courts, golf course and bowling green.
Because of the size of the college, students benefit from small classes and therefore closer personal attention. Nevertheless, through the use of flexible means of delivery and by making effective use of technology, the college is able to offer an extensive range of curriculum opportunities from year 7 to 12. At the senior levels, the college offers an excellent mix of academic subjects and applied learning options. This ensures that our students exit to a wide range of pathways that match their skills and interests. As a result, Beaufort Secondary College has, in its 50 years, built up a tradition of excellence and catering for the needs of all students.
The college is a member of the Wimmera Virtual Schooling Project, Ballarat VET Cluster and the Ballarat Technical Training Centre consortium, and this has allowed it to further extend the opportunities for its students.
Parental and community input is significant and highly valued. Parents demonstrate a strong commitment to the college through active involvement in classroom activities, Parents and Friends Association and College Council.
As far as facilities are concerned, students have access to an excellent gymnasium, drama centre and student centre/canteen, as well as a recently refurbished Technology (Wood, Metal and Electronics) Centre and recently developed rural/environmental studies area. A school priority is the provision of excellent ICT facilities and these are effectively used in the delivery of the curriculum. A recent Community Facilities grant also provided the school with a boatshed at the lake and partnership with the Pyrenees Shire in the Beaufort Community Bank Complex.
The Beaufort Education Regeneration Project is currently underway using Federal, State and Local Government funding. Under our master-plan, the Beaufort Early Learning Centre, Beaufort Primary School and Beaufort Secondary College will be located on the secondary site. Planning is taking place to ensure that the young people of Beaufort and District receive an excellent and seamless education from Kindergarten to Year 12 level.
