The college offers free individual and small group instrumental music lessons, provided by Mrs Tanya Kehoe. We encourage students to participate if they are prepared to catch up on any work missed. Whilst students are withdrawn from class to attend their music lessons, the times for lessons are rotated each week to prevent students repeatedly missing the same class.
There are three options available to students for instruments. They can purchase their own instrument; hire musical instruments as available from the stock of instruments owned by the school; or make their own arrangements to hire an instrument directly through any music hire firm.
It is expected that students who participate in the Instrumental Music Programme will practise regularly at home to reinforce the skills learned at school and will participate in the School Band. The School Band practises as a group one lunchtime per week. The Band has the opportunity to play at official school functions and events in the community, both during and after school hours.
The School offers the opportunity to students to sing in a voice ensemble. The choir is a non-auditioned group and open to any interested student who has a love for voice and music generally. The group meets at a mutually agreeable time on a weekly basis with extra rehearsals scheduled when a performance is imminent. There is a wide range of repertoire with a focus on harmony.
